Key Responsibilities:

Method Development and Validation

  • Lead the validation of new methods, including comprehensive validation plans, food matrix testing, participation in PT schemes, and addressing health and safety requirements.
  • Oversee resource allocation, training, and coaching to integrate new methods effectively.
  • Manage data flow integration into existing systems and address non-conformances during the accreditation process.

Process Optimisation

  • Evaluate and enhance current microbiological processes for efficiency.
  • Improve scheduling and planning routines (daily, weekly).
  • Collaborate with data analytics teams to enhance LIMS, scheduling, and QMS systems.
  • Streamline QA/QC processes and eliminate paper-based records.
  • Guide and motivate testing teams to adopt positive changes and exceed customer expectations.

Operational Excellence

  • Ensure analysis complies with ISO 17025 standards and internal SOPs.
  • Update/create SOPs and GOPs as needed.
  • Support regulatory audits and maintain compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Manage device calibration and stock control.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in a microbiological field with 3–5 years of experience in an ISO 17025 or ISO 15189 laboratory environment.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in microorganism identification using bio/immunological kits or microscopy techniques. Familiarity with microbiology laboratory routines, including sample testing, quality control, and client interaction.
  • Analytical & IT Skills: Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office and laboratory management systems, with the ability to research and apply new methods and technologies.
  • Leadership & Interpersonal Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead, train, and motivate teams, with excellent communication and customer focus.
  • Compliance: Knowledgeable in legislative requirements and regulatory compliance.
  • Additional Requirements: Fluent spoken and written English and the ability to work independently and under pressure.
