Thermal Processing Technologist

Position Overview:

As a Thermal Processing Technologist, you will ensure compliance with thermal processing standards to produce safe, fully cooked pet food. You’ll help maintain audit readiness according to retailer Codes of Practice (COPs), BRC, and IFS standards.

Core Responsibilities:

Thermal Processing Pouch:

  • Validate retorts and conduct routine heat penetrations
  • Investigate retort issues and isolated stock on QC hold
  • Conduct annual micro testing for retort cycles and cooling water
  • Liaise with “Steriflow” and “Elab” for equipment issues
  • Train retort operators and maintain procedures

Raw Material Supplier NCRs:

  • Manage and resolve NCR reports with suppliers
  • Communicate issues to relevant staff

Quality Supervisor Plate Freeze:

  • Conduct daily GMP audits and weekly Glass & Hard Plastic audits
  • Lead close-out of audit non-conformances
  • Ensure SOPs comply with BRC/IFS and retailer requirements
  • Participate in HACCP team activities and continuous improvement projects

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Communicate issues in daily production meetings
  • Log weekly external water test results
  • Cover Quality Coordinator role as needed
  • Develop and track site quality KPIs
  • Facilitate root cause analysis and GAP analysis

Performance Measures:

  • Timely completion of thermal processing activities
  • Weekly thermal processing and NCR reports
  • Up-to-date NCR reporting
  • Daily and weekly GMP audit reports
  • Zero non-conformances in audits

Desired Competencies and Qualifications:

  • Third-level qualification in Food Science or Quality Management is desirable
  • 2+ years’ experience in food manufacturing, preferably with thermal processing
  • Strong numerical and data analysis skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and focus on continuous improvement
  • High computer literacy (Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project)
  • Experience in quality system management in a regulated environment
  • Willingness to travel within Europe as needed
