Chief Risk Officer

A global specialty and reinsurance company is looking to hire a Chief Risk Officer (PCF 14) for its growing Irish entity. The primary purpose of the role is to support the continuous development, maintenance, effective operation and embedding of the risk and capital management, monitoring and reporting framework within the company. The role is suited to an existing CRO or someone with a strong ERM/ Non-Financial Risk background, in a non-life or reinsurance company, looking for their first CRO position.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead the development and embedding of the Group’s Risk, Capital & Solvency Management Framework and supporting processes into the company.
  • To develop and embed techniques to identify, measure, respond to, monitor, mitigate (as appropriate) and report on all company key risks.
  • Act as an SME to support the business lines in interpreting and intelligently applying the principles and requirements underpinning the Solvency II regime and equivalent / emerging regulatory frameworks.
  • Coordinate and support the process for identifying, monitoring and managing Operational Risk within the company including the facilitation of reviews with Risk and Control Owners.
  • Lead the analysis and management of Intrinsic Risk (Underwriting, Investment, Counterparty, Reserving, Liquidity) through liaison with appropriate functions including but not limited to the actuarial, finance and catastrophe modelling teams. 
  • Lead and manage the production of annual ‘ORSA’, ‘SFCR’ reports leveraging the outputs of the underlying processes that in aggregate comprise the Framework.

Key requirements include:

  • Significant reinsurance or non-life insurance experience in a senior Risk, Internal Audit or Actuarial role.
  • Strong awareness and understanding of the principles of effective risk management spanning both traditional Operational Risk and those key areas of Intrinsic / Financial Risk faced by insurers.
  • Deep knowledge of the details and concepts underpinning Solvency II and other applicable regulatory frameworks.
  • Good working knowledge of the principles and methodologies applied in capital modelling.
  • Significant experience of interacting with the CBI.
