Intermediate Health and Safety Officer

Overview:

We are currently seeking a proactive and experienced Health & Safety Officer to join our team at our Ballymahon site in County Longford. In this key role, you will be responsible for implementing and managing health and safety systems on-site. Working in close partnership with Group Health & Safety teams, you’ll ensure that local safety procedures align with wider organisational standards and objectives.


Main Responsibilities:

  • Log and investigate all incidents and near misses on-site; track trends and compile reports for Business Unit leadership.
  • Drive the ongoing improvement and application of safety policies, standards, and procedures across the site.
  • Deliver health and safety training and awareness sessions for management and staff.
  • Ensure consistent enforcement of safety practices in coordination with Business Unit Managers.
  • Collaborate with the Site Manager to plan and allocate budgets for health and safety training programs.
  • Actively engage with site-based safety teams and provide support and guidance.
  • Lead and chair site safety meetings, keeping management teams informed of key updates and initiatives.
  • Ensure all team members are appropriately trained and competent to carry out their roles safely.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments and review existing ones to maintain site compliance.
  • Manage internal audit processes, assess performance, and develop improvement actions as needed.
  • Submit monthly health and safety reports to the Site Manager, highlighting key risks and proposed actions.
  • Perform unannounced safety inspections to ensure compliance with site and group-level policies.
  • Identify and escalate any breaches of policy to the Site and Group Health & Safety Managers.

Candidate Profile:

  • Health & Safety qualification (Diploma or Degree preferred)
  • Minimum 1.5 / 2 years’ experience in a health and safety role, ideally in a food production or manufacturing environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, using sound judgement and initiative
  • Demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement and challenge existing practices
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Training delivery experience is an advantage
