Mechanical Fitter

We’re looking for a Mechanical Fitter to join one of our clients who are one of Europe’s leading petfood manufacturers. They have multiple production facilities across 6 countries. They are growing massively with their turnover more than €300 million.

You will undertake maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of all production machinery and plant services i.e. repair of components, overhauls, sensors, steam, air, water, de-bugging of systems, etc. Experience working with fluids, pumps, valves, controllers, and packing equipment would be advantageous.

Keys skills:

  • Qualified to Senior Trades level, or comparable European NFQ qualifications, and / or NCEA Cert. / Diploma in an Electro-Mechanical discipline. FETAC Level 6 Accreditation or equivalent but not limited to Solas apprenticeship, City & Guilds apprenticeship or higher
  • Interest or courses attended in controls, pneumatics, welding, etc.
  • Safety, Documentation and GMP awareness / compliant.
  • Experience of troubleshooting and repair of manufacturing equipment.
  • Interest / initiative in improving processes.
  • Good writing / record keeping (e.g. maintenance reports / job cards), and communication skills.
  • Excellent Team Player
  • PC Literacy, basic navigation and file management skills.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform hands-on repairs and maintenance of mechanical systems and equipment (including sub-assemblies) while ensuring compliance with safety protocols, food safety standards, and engineering best practices.
  • Carry out both reactive (unplanned breakdown) and planned (preventive, corrective, or rebuild) mechanical maintenance for offline and online equipment.
  • Ensure maximum equipment uptime by providing efficient, safe, and food-compliant mechanical maintenance
  • Act as the first point of contact for mechanical maintenance requests from internal teams while escalating issues beyond their remit (e.g., electrical or specialized trades)
  • Complete assigned maintenance tasks, including corrective, preventive, and rebuilding work, while identifying material or labour needs for additional maintenance requests.
  • Conduct technical and mechanical investigations when required and promptly escalate or report any safety or food safety concerns, including near-miss incidents, hazards, or other risks.
