Health and Safety Officer:

Westmeath 

The Health and Safety officer is responsible for supporting the operations teams with implementing the safety policy and standards for the business with the end goal in keeping employees safe and reducing accidents. The Health and Safety officer will be responsible for communicating plans, reporting performance, and continuously increasing awareness of safety.

Main Responsibilities

  • Assume accountability for the health and safety of employees across sites driving improvements across all areas of production while developing processes that help promote a strong health and safety culture and reduce accidents
  • Develop relationships both internally (employees) and with key external (Safety bodies, government agencies, auditors, suppliers) stakeholders and develop Health and safety polices and standards
  • Lead, coach and develop teams on health and safety policies, procedures, and risk assessments
  • Organise and conduct health and safety training, including induction training, refresher training and manual handling
  • Develop training tools to drive awareness and implementation of health and safety initiatives
  • Lead initiatives to increase and develop best practice safety solutions, ensuring that there is communication across the business and a mentality of continuous improvement
  • Manage the company’s health and safety performance by creating a health and safety metrics, track and manage delivery against agreed timeline and communicate progress to internal stakeholders
  • Lead health and safety incident and accident investigations to determine root cause and define preventative and corrective action
  • Assist with the reduce claims and insurance cost by actively completing risk assessment, assessing workplace hazards, reducing / eliminating risks through safe working procedure

Requirements:

  • Degree in Health and Safety or a related discipline
  • 1-2 years’ H&S experience working in a manufacturing environment (desirable, but not essential)
  • Membership with IOSH to at least Graduate Level (Grad IOSH)
  • Manual Handling Instructor (Desirable, but not essential)
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Good organisation and leadership skills
